THE ROUTE and some of the attractions along the way are described below (all mileages are approximations):

DAY 1: (60 miles) cyclists will roll out of Morris High School and head northwest thru the Illinois River valley and I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor for an easy, flat cycling day to Shabbona State Park. A delicious dinner will be provided.

DAY 2: (75 miles) today will continue northwest to Freeport. A public pool is within walking distance of the school.  (indoor sleeping).  Dinner is on your own tonight.  Plenty of nearby restaurants.

DAY 3: (70 miles) the hills continue today as we head mostly west to Galena.  We will be staying at a campground with a pool.  A chili dinner, salad and desserts may be provided.

Day 4: (45 - 60 miles) members of the GOATS (Galena Bicycle Club) will ride with those who wish to ride. If you want to take the day off from hills and riding there is plenty to do in and around Galena, or you can just relax.  Last year, some riders canoed, and those who rode with the GOATS had the special treat of going up the chair lift at Chestnut Mountain ski area with our bikes and then enjoying a delicious breakfast at the mountain.  We then continued our ride, had lunch at our hosts home (John and Suzanne) and ended the day back at the campground. We are looking forward to a similar experience this year.

Day 5: (45 miles) we will start the return route, and finish the day at Mt. Carroll.  Lots of great hills today as we ride in and out of valleys.  A pool is available next to the school (nominal fee) for your use.  Dinner and breakfast will be provided.  (indoor sleeping  available).

Day 6: (75 miles) the route begins to flatten out as we head southeast to Amboy and another beautiful campground with a pool. Stop at BJ's bike shop in Dixon for your free ice cream token.. Enjoy the wood carvings in Amboy before heading up to the campground. Dinner and a full breakfast will be served

Day 7: (60 miles) we will miss you. This great ride ends back at Morris High School. Showers available before you leave for home with a pocketful of names of new biking friends.
